While battling for the ball, Marcelo, who currently represents Fluminense in his home Brazil, unintentionally stamped on Argentinos Juniors defender Luciano Sanchez. Marcelo left the game in tears as Sanchez’s leg was immediately seen to be fractured.

The Brazilian posted on social media following the match that “today, I had to experience a very difficult moment on the pitch.” Unintentionally, I hurt a coworker. I’d want to wish you Luciano Sanchez the speediest recovery possible. I am sending you every ounce of strength there is.

The incident drew swift responses from football fans as well. One fan even tweeted: “That’s the worst injury I’ve ever seen! OMG!”

The second person said, “Marcelo isn’t even trying to step on him either bro, this s*** is just so unfortunate.” And a third wrote on Twitter, “This is the worst injury I’ve ever seen in my life!”

Not sure why he received a red for that, and he may not have much room for improvement. A fourth person questioned, “Seems like a terrible accident. “That sucks for both of them man, so much trauma in this clip,” one person commented.

Before moving to Europe in 2007 with Real, Marcelo began his career in Fluminense, progressing through their academy divisions. The Brazilian only departed Los Blancos in 2022, but he became an instant hit.

After a disastrous stint in Greece, the Brazilian made his way back to his childhood team in February and made his Copa Libertadores debut. The Copa Libertadores is South America’s equivalent of the Champions League.
